On Thanksgiving I rode my current single-speed bike 23 miles to my sister-in-law’s house for dinner.
It was a nice day and it was an easy ride. As often happens on a good bike ride, I had thoughts that would not have occurred to me if I had not been on the bike. I realized as I rode that I have the capability to accomplish more than I am doing. I lack the will to do more and when I think about it abstractly I doubt that it is worth it to do more. Also, when I have that thought, I feel that old age is showing itself.
The winter is here and I need to embrace the enemy without stopping to think about it. The motivation to do more at the gym and more exercise at home is to be ready for the big bike tour I expect to do in the Summer of 2012. I want that ride to be such that every day I will be glad for all the hours I spent in preparation.
